The 2025 Eating Disorders Day of Prayer will be held this Wednesday, February 26th. This event is open to anyone interested in seeking the Lord’s healing and receiving encouragement for recovery from food & body image issues; it’s for those with an eating disorder, their loved ones & friends, and health care providers- anyone interested in praying together.
Prayer and community are a powerful combination!
At the prayer event, we have brief introductions, followed by prayer; some pray out loud, and some pray silently. It’s wonderful to bask in the prayers of others!
The prayer time is guided by the A.C.T.S. format (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication). This structure can be an effective way to organize our thoughts and requests. Let’s take a closer look at each one.
- Adoration/Attributes: Praising God helps remind us of who He is. Each time I praise Him for His attributes, my frustrations and worries are eclipsed by His greatness. God is greater than our circumstances. Praise Him as attributes come to mind or pray scripture back to Him. Isaiah 9:6 comes to my mind- “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Reminding myself of these attributes again and again has settled these truths deep in my heart.
- Confession: During the Eating Disorders Day of Prayer, we silently confess sins to our Lord who loves and forgives. Confessing our sins lets us approach a Holy God with a clean heart. 1 John 1:9 tells us that, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Confessing can help give us peace and comfort.
- Thanksgiving: Going through an eating disorder is hard, yet it’s often in the darkness that the Light shines the brightest. Ask yourself, “How have I seen God working? What can I thank Him for?” Going through trials, it may be more difficult to offer thanksgiving, but God will show us how to focus on His blessings instead of our struggles. Ask Him to help you see the blessings.
- Supplication: We have the great privilege to present our requests to God. What do we ask for? Of course, we ask for healing, but here are a few other things we can pray for:
- That this trial will draw us closer to the Lord and strengthen our faith.
- That those struggling will desire recovery and seek effective treatment.
- Compassion and wisdom for those providing treatment; lifting physicians, dietitians, therapists, support groups, friends, etc. up to Him in prayer.
- That God would provide the necessary treatment and the finances to access that treatment.
- Strength to persevere; for encouragement and progress in recovery.
- Complete healing from eating disorders/food & body image issues, as well as protection from relapse.
Blessings and Insights
God has anointed the Eating Disorders Day of Prayer! Here are some of the many blessings-
If the Lord is calling you to serve Him in some way, trust Him to do it. You just need to be obedient, be faithful in prayer, and follow His lead.
He does not call the equipped, He equips those He calls.
If He has called you to serve Him, He will do it through you as an obedient vessel. He uses our weaknesses, our gifts, our fears, and even our failures to serve Him in His perfect plan.
Pray through each step of the way and ask others to pray for you too. I truly believe that the prayers of my prayer team and others have been foundational to this ministry!
